[WiP] WoD Retro porting to Classic WoW 1.12

Hello all,

I'm Uthil and for the past month i've been working this project when accidentally found PhantomXization tutorial about down porting WoD models to WotLK and i start to dig how you could do it for a classic client, and then i found Koward's aka Spik96 tool. So i start to experiment and final i found my self deep inside modding again. Yes i was modding way back and i was mostly modding FPS games like BF2 and mostly COD:Uo. Tho upon starting modding/editing WoW saw that was a whole different thing from the FPS modding that i knew. Anyway dont want to go far away, my original topic is in the other forum tho it seems now kinda empty so after  a bit of consideration i decide to move my topic here, since it seemed more active than the other forum and i hope to find some help by learning more or correcting my mistakes or even people that doing it even as a hobby like me or professionally.

Only thing that it is known is that yet you cant port some models with all particles working. In some models was working in some it didn't, i believe that is a matter of time when koward find a solution and i own that to him for his tool.

Also i faced some problems with those beds, i thought that game handles the model positioning but as it seems it doesn't since some beds was set in wrong position.

Hey mate, thanks that you like my project and i agree with you for why i like classic wow. Its set like a pure rpg game and the atmosphere that has is awesome, you know how things is after Arthas ruined everything and now is taking a nap up in Northrend and that exists in the game. Anyway my aim is to just to change some models and not all, i.e those two wagons that i have replaced from Cata ain't gonna stay since they are a bit bigger than the usual one and overlaps some other models there, like barrels and boxes. How i did you ask is i think simple, by watching some video tuts that these folks have here, reading some tuts in the forums, i was modding way back when CoD:Uo was hype so i have some knowledge for this and that. But this modding is completely different from what i was doing. :D

I made a couple of tests with all models, and at the moment im on this state. Im not sure what exactly interfere there and getting this result :

So my question is which textures/texture area got messed up, is the FacialHairUpper, its the FacialScalpUpper, the HumanMaleFaceUpper? Honestly im not sure what causing it. And i have re made the textures 3 -4 times now. At the present time all model textures are set to 256 res. I don't use the CharSections file since my BLPs doesn't have the _HD suffix at the end as also i dont use the CreatureModelData file to since my model has same name as the default.

BUMP on this, is anyone willing or at least have some sense of honor at all to give some feedback. Im moving around this without making any progress. I made one more test to see if face was set to wrong res by changing HumanMaleFaceLower00_00 - HumanMaleFaceLower00_01 and HumanMaleFaceLower00_02 with their uppers to 128x res but again i had same effect.

I'm pretty sure you did the uvmapping on the face incorrect, how did you do it?

I followed the tut from Phantom to be honest, when i moved the face down to the text i did with "G" ,moved it directly and i position it above the face texture so looks been centered. Then i shrink it on "Y" axis a bit to remove that black effect on top, then i shrink it a bit on "X" axis. Then i checked mouth, nolstril's been somewhat centered and overall the face fit the texture in 3D(animation window) and on the UvMapping Window by using "G" again.

Could be one of two things, one face texture size might be wrong or two it's not using the new textures.

I don't mod vanilla so I don't know what file names it has but I'd compare your files to the original and make sure everything matches up I.E. HumanMaleFaceUpper00_00 must have HumanMaleFaceLower00_00 and so on and of course make sure your textures actually have those names.

Every Upper needs a Lower.

Up to WotLK names are same, only difference is that LK got more, that means that in classic i.e it stops at 09_09 but in LK some textures reach 23_09 files. Triple the amount in faces, and it uses the same, Uppers and lowers, might be same for cata too, not sure since i haven't check any Cataclysm MPQ files neither from MoP.

I wasn't sure for the size, but from tests i did i changed 3 upper and 3 lower down to 128x32 and 128x64 for size but again had same effect. Mine at the moment are set to 256x64 256x128. I used Inico's tool for creating the blps in photoshop. It was really helpfull.

So i manage to put my hands on a full Legion Beta client, 7.0.1.20756 build . Seems blizz already start to dress the old content and the new models seems far more better now.

So that was most of the new models that was changed, i believe with the passing of time blizz will update whole old content and cant wait to be done. I like those models but not all, i.e i would love to had rework the bear and not change it to that model, old bear was more real like, new one seems like winnie the pooh :P.

So i want to ask this, is Stormwind lamp posts control in game separately or i there is a dual model. Since i found the one and replace it, it worked just fine, but outside the city where valley of honor is. There and everywhere else the model changed to the new one but inside city it didn't not. Anyone knows where is the other model or how to find the in city model ?

You mean been part of the whole Stormwind map and not as a single model ? To be honest i havent used noggit at all. But i suspect that the city lamp posts must be part of the whole map and not as a single model.

To be honest i haven't thought/test it and not sure if this can be done from client side. I believe that might be done but if anyone can provide some info it would be useful.
