How to fix a world that crashes on start up?

You need to keep 4 textures in each chunk on every ADT you save in Noggit. As long as you do so, those ADTs won't give you crash you are getting.

Creating zones in Noggit isn't that difficult, you just need to learn to avoid a few things, which are all mentioned in Noggit FAQ (only this trick/hack with 4 textures on each chunk isn't written there). Generally its easier to make new zones than edit blizzlike ones, at least as long as you are newbie.

I am now completely retired from modding. I am still reading PMs and reacting to them, however, I am not keeping up to date with what is going on in the community and my ability to help you is becoming very limited - I no longer remember some things, I don't have tools installed anymore, and I don't know what is up to date nowadays.

0023:007B31F8 is very common problem, ground effect error. Check this topic:
http://modcraft.superparanoid.de/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2971
Its 4th error mentioned there, that one where Ascathos' advice is quoted. Following it always fixed this crash for me.

EDIT: Btw, it would seem this crash would deserver being mentioned in FAQ as well.

Okay that's it (also I did not down vote you Amaroth) I am wiping my patches and starting a new. So what I take it is that if I use Noggit on Azeroth I have a sword dangling from a string above my head at all times waiting to fall and crash the world, and that if I fix my original bugged square / chunk / adt (which I have no clue what one it is) I will have to fill in all of the surrounding chunks with other textures until it works but "the solution is quite obvious" (< why does this black crap happen also when I copy paste from mod craft?) where one creates a listfile manually (no clue how this is done, more bullshit ring arounds I guess). I mean fuck this is such a soul crushing tool to work with 2/10, 8/10 if it worked - it is so inspiring and has so much potential, but it rips your soul out when this shit happens. Skarn says that Noggit can't even edit azeroth reliably because it crashes the game at anytime if one does no save right. How do you save right? What is wrong saving? AHH! It is so confusing as fuck and cryptic hell. Fuck I don't know two shits about wow modding yes correct but fuck I try and make videos and I try to make sure I am clearly understood and all of my cards in your guys hands. It frustrates me to no end when I read and read and read and read (a post that could have taken 3 hours to type and spell / error check) to find a half solution and have to fish in the dark for the rest; just make a damn video that is why I started because walls of text kinda suck ass (I had an online team over at Baldur's gate and no one likes 100 lines of words- just my experience). I really suck at learning like this so most of the this bitch post is myself pissed off at how shit I am at using the tools but fuck these tools have some pretty bad learning curves. So I guess this is why no one makes custom private server content? Noggit can't suck this much ass and drains one's soul that much to use; it is power, it is good but does it actually suck ass? I see objects moved around alI see colour edits to existing areas in private servers but I see no new land map content added onto wow.. I do not know but my tank that is being made from game from scratch is looking pretty good right now.

 For myself I found that

This is easier to make: https://youtu.be/GFWTGWzMSks

Than this: https://youtu.be/pr1eh-B3Bpk <- 3+ times more hard and ball crushing.

I don't know what I should do. Noggit looks like it sucks monkey balls and I cannot create my vanilla project on it, either that or I will have to 3D sculpt azeroth on blender and hope to hell that it works. It is just a piss off for it was going so good and than - Bam! project cripply, soul crushing critical engine bug. I might just leave WoW modelling if I can't fix this in one months time. Thank you guys for your support; I will remember how friendly you all were.

Hey I can be a pretty big suck at wow modding, what is this mysterious art of "You need to keep 4 textures in each chunk on every ADT you save in Noggit. As long as you do so, those ADTs won't give you crash you are getting." that you speak of oh great wise Amaroth?

How @Amaroth said:

Noggit always need minimum of 3 (or maybe 4 (full)) textures. When you cant fix them with noggit again -> Start the map with a older noggit version. (thats the reason why i have a 1.2 version on my computer, idk WHY the older open it)
You dont have to make it show, the textures have only to be in the (1by4 texture tabelle) so take any texture (little hint, i take crap single-clors (red/blue/green) set the pressure and hardness down and draw over all .adts) so that problem will be solved. Its very important in general by modding with noggit (actually blizzlikezones or new one)

Next problem maybe: It is possible, that yah have a .wmo/.m2 not standing out of WOTLK? For example, Cata/MoP or some higher? Than you need a "hexed" wow.exe (i dont know what this say exactly, i only know, that the general things need a better version of the exe, so we have to edit them)

So thats my ideas about that... poooh. I thought my Noggit Version is broken or something xD

You ramble a little bit too much sometimes :D. And my upload is around 15 kB/s, so its just terribly slow for posting videos all the time on YT.

Yes, you need to paint 4 different textures on every single red square in every single ADT you edit and save in Noggit. You need to have those slots for textures completely filled on each red square in each ADT you save, when you don't do so, they may start crashing in game. Thats why I used big radius (100) and minimal pressure (0,01) and minimal opacity (white bottom of that opacity setter on right side of 3D Paint settings window) - with such brush your painting isn't visible, but still fills slots for textures whenever they aren't filled yet.

About spreading of your edited area, I have covered that in my video, too ;) (2:00 and following). I wanted to edit only 1 ADT there, but my edited area spreaded to 25 ADTs (8 around edited one, because I have "touched" them with my brushes, too, so they were edited, too, and another 16 around those 8, because Noggit always saves ADTs around ADTs you edit to prevent saving bugs (which aren't prevented by that stupid way anyway)). So, I wanted to edit 1 ADT, when I was painting textures on it I edited unintentionally 9 ADTs, and 25 ADTs were saved. That was NOT something I wanted, so what I did? I deleted all ADTs I originally didn't want to have edited and saved. In my video, I wanted to edit only ADT 36 34, so I kept 36 34 in folder where Noggit saves edited ADTs, and I deleted all other ADTs (those 24 unwanted ones). That made those 24 ADTs around my 1 unedited again, they were reseted to blizzlike state and I had just my 1 ADT edited, as I wanted. And it had 4 textures on each chunk, so I didn't have to be afraid of crashes anymore.

Has anyone tested if the fix at https://bitbucket.org/berndloerwald/noggit3/commits/c1c2b37b0b9114e47a56fe7ffaba94e8dee44f94?at=default works? That would be way easier than writing guides on that shitty workaround.

Only for those who are programmers.

There are people who did Noggit releases in the recent past, which could do one quickly at any time.
