mecher
Hi all, not sure if this is the right section, but I've been trying to get into the model editing scene a bit and it seems I've hit a bit of a roadblock as I can't seem to get this tool to work what so ever. Whenever I try to start up the program, I get the error in the attached pic. I'm on Win 8.1. I've read that the .dll that is faulting has something to do with the Microsoft 2008 redistributable and Windows Visual Studio 2008, both of which I have tried installing and they have not worked. Anyone have any ideas what I might be missing?
Songen
This is a CMD tool only, there is no UI. If you try to start it, it is ment to crash. To work with it you either: Drop your .MDX/.MDL file on the program Open your CMD Prompt in the folder and commandline the program to run your model. Смердокрыл
Could anyone explain the difference between mdx and m2, and any reason to convert between the two? or not
Songen
MDX is the model format used in Warcraft 3, which has a very similiar structure to M2 models which is the model format that WoW uses. MDX models cannot be used in WoW, therefor must be converted. The perk of using MDXTOM2 for custom models rather than Blender is that with MDXTOM2 you can make your own animations. Uthil
As i understand, tho i might be completely wrong, m2 serves as a shell, means the inner model thing is an mdx, like a core. So the earlier versions was reading mdx tho m2 came as the final solution. Please correct me if im wrong Like my project and you like to support me you can do it here! Songen
The WoW Alpha used an updated version of .MDX models, hence why the DBCs refers to them as MDX and not M2.
Uthil
i would love to see a deeper explanation on this. Seems weird for me the DBC points to mdx, when m2 is the file. Like my project and you like to support me you can do it here!

WoW 335 can use MDX without any problems since some groundeffect flowers and grass craps are in MDX format not many but iv seen them smwhere in files like 3 years ago i guess No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first and is waiting for it PATREON | TWITCH | MC.net | YOUTUBE | PAYPAL |BUY SOME OF MY 3D MODELS Star Citizen Referral Code : STAR-XNFS-HVL9 - Register using my code and recieve free 5,000 UEC
Skarn
The idea is that .MDX is a hardcoded equal extension as .m2. That's literally all. When a client sees a .mdx it loads the same path with .m2. This way of naming comes from the fact that WoW engine is an updated WC3 engine at some point, or it was on its early stages. Makes no sense.
Alastor StrixEfuartus
Because MDX < M2 and it was for converting models from MDLVis as MDL to MDX then to M2 No matter how fast light travels it finds the darkness has always got there first and is waiting for it PATREON | TWITCH | MC.net | YOUTUBE | PAYPAL |BUY SOME OF MY 3D MODELS Star Citizen Referral Code : STAR-XNFS-HVL9 - Register using my code and recieve free 5,000 UEC
